The WGCH News Center brings you the most comprehensive local, state and national coverage. Director of News Operations Tony Savino heads our team. Our extensive reports air every hour 6 AM to 6 PM and include affiliations with ABC Radio and the Connecticut Radio Network. We also provide up to the minute traffic, weather and sports reports from our team of experts. We deliver wall to wall news coverage important to you in a concise yet comprehensive manner. You'll also hear traffic and weather together on the tens. Interviews with local and state newsmakers are another important part of what we bring to you. When news is happening, you can count on the WGCH News Center. BILL EVANS WEATHER Bill, a seven-time Emmy award winner for "Outstanding On-Camera Achievement in Weather Broadcasting", also fills in to do the weather on "Good Morning America" and has appeared on "Live with Regis and Kelly". He is also a "New York Times" best-selling author for his novel "Category 7", a techno-thriller about a hurricane bound for New York City. Bill is most noted for his energetic and entertaining live weather broadcasts on location all over the Tri-State area, Florida, and the Caribbean. He has done the weather while playing tennis with the William's Sisters Venus and Serena, basketball with the NY Knicks, skating with Olympic Gold Medalist Christie Yamaguci, and playing golf with Tiger Woods. In addition Bill has done the weather while water skiing around Manhattan on the Hudson and East Rivers, swimming with dolphins, underwater with sharks, seals, sea lions, and beluga whales, sky diving, playing hockey with the NY Rangers, New Jersey Devils, and the NY Islanders, NASCAR and INDYcar driving, bungee jumping, snow skiing, and flying with The Blue Angels and The Air Force Thunderbirds. Bill has also done the weather just hanging out live from his backyard! Bill began his broadcasting career at the age of 13 in his hometown of Meridian, Mississippi as a DJ on WDAL Radio and WTOK-TV where he delivered his first weathercast. In 1985 Bill was awarded two prestigious honors. He received his broadcast "Seal of Approval" from The American Meteorological Society and was named "Outstanding Meteorologist" by The National Weather Service for his forecasting and reporting during Hurricane Elena. Bill came to New York in 1989 from Dallas where he was Meteorologist for WFAA-TV and radio morning show host for KHYI-95FM Radio. Prior to that he was Meteorologist for WALA-TV in Mobile, AL and was radio morning show host for WABB-97FM Radio. He received his broadcast "Seal of Approval" from The American Meteorological Society and was named "Outstanding Meteorologist" by The National Weather Service for his forecasting and reporting during Hurricane Elena. Bill is an avid fund raiser for many children's charities and is very active in the community as an emcee at various events for many organizations. He and his lovely wife Dana have four wonderful and beautiful children, oldest daughter Maggie, son William, and twin daughters Julia and Sarah.
